Palitana Tirth Guide: The Eternal City of 863 Temples

Palitana, located in the Bhavnagar district of Gujarat, is the world's only mountain with more than 800 temples. Known as Shatrunjaya (The Place of Victory), it is the most sacred pilgrimage site for the Shvetambar Jain community.

The Significance of Shatrunjaya

It is believed that millions of souls, including the first Tirthankar Lord Rishabhdev (Adinath), attained Moksha from this holy hill. For a Jain, climbing Palitana is a journey of spiritual cleansing and extreme devotion.

The Climb: 3,500 Steps

Devotees start their climb early in the morning, barefoot. The journey takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. At the peak, the main temple of Lord Adinath stands in majestic marble, surrounded by hundreds of smaller shrines, forming a 'City of Gods'.

Important Rules for Pilgrims

• Do not consume food or water while on the hill.
• Maintain silence and focus on prayers.
• Leather items are strictly prohibited.
• Descend the hill before sunset.
